Crazy Bones

I could tell the minute I got here that something was going to happen. I guess it's just a weird feeling you get when you are working around criminals, like something is not right. After giving out trays in F section at aprox. 1800, Cpl. L noticed that inmate Collis did not take one. When questioned, Collis stated that his stomach didn't feel right, and if he did take one he would just give it away. At aprox. 1900 during headcount, Collis was not present outside his cell. When questioned, he reinstated that his stomach hurt and he just needed to lay down for a while. Nurse notified and says he needs to go to medical. 2010 Sgt. W. arrives and calls a signal 46, a wheel chair is 51. 2015 Wheelchair and nurse arrive. 2020 Cpt. B. arrives. The situation becomes hectic with one captain, 2 sergeants, 3 officers and 2-5 inmate workers running around. The whole time I think it is a signal 34 (suicide) because the inmate is signal 20(crazy) From what I see, large amounts of blood cover the floor and walls of the cell. Cpt. B. gets blood on his hands without gloves, thankfully hes made out of steel and concrete and doesnt even seem to mind. Everyone looks disgusted. Cpl. L who is a sergeant in the army, and about to return for his second term in Iraq looks like he is going to throw up.

Come to find out Collis really was sick and in the words of Cpl. L , "WHILE PRESENT WITH INMATE JOHNSON HE BEGAN TO VOMIT LARGE AMOUNTS OF DARK COLORED BLOOD." 2045 EMS arrives and transports Collis to the hospital. 2050 inmate workers scrub Collis' cell with bleach while I watch, and laugh.

On a lighter note Dial finally got in trouble for bullying other inmates. He tried picking on Parks who is the one signal 20 I like because hes friendly. But Parks yelled at him and then told on him and now hes gone somewhere else.

PRESS RELEASE-EMPLOYEE TERMINATED FOR VIOLATION OF CORE VALUES

On November 19, 2008, an inmate worker reported that radio technician, Stephen Widner, had inappropriately touched her while she worked at the video visitation center. Widner was alone with the inmate worker in a small copy room as she sat on a milk crate to help sort wires to be installed by Widner. He then reached over and rubbed the inmate worker’s cheek and told her that “I can get you things” and “I’ll take care of you”. Widner then bent down and kissed the inmate. As they kissed, Widner grabbed the inmate’s wrist and directed it to his groin.

It was also alleged and substantiated that Stephen Widner had provided food, beverages and cigarettes to another female inmate during her incarceration. This allegation also included inappropriate contact; however it could not be substantiated.

Steve Widner admitted to providing female inmate workers with soft drinks and pop-tarts, but denied supplying them with cigarettes. He also confirmed that the kissing incident in the copy room had occurred.
On 12-09-2008, Stephen Widner resigned from the -------------------.

Honor First

It seems pretty late, but if I was at work right now I would be wraping things up to get ready for shift chage. Im doing research on jobs and its making my eyes burn. I think I have narrowed down my choices to.
Law Enforcement
1.Federal
2.State
3.Local
Corrections
1.Federal
2.State
3.Local

This list probably doesnt make sense and its not entirely accurate. For one I want to go to C.O. school as soon as possible. Secondly when Im ready, which wont be at least for a year, I would probably send out all my apps at one time. Lastly I love my job and If I do become a C.O. I might just stay here and/or try to go on the road. But my dream has always been to work for the government. Ultimately I would love to work for Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms but I dont have a degree and Im not sure when Ill get one. I guess this post was just to open up for more detailed ones later on. Because there is so much to explain but im too tired. But the focus of the next couple topics will be Border Patrol Agent because thats the top of my list right now. So the websites I like so far are
1. http://honorfirst.com/usbp1.htm
2. http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/careers/
3. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Border_Patrol#Special_operations

Running late

So this is my first post since switching over from http://www.livejournal.com/ and I can honestly say I like this so much better. A couple things have changed. For starters this blog is not for social networking, but more like a journal. Second I am going to use military time instead of twelve hour time, because once you understand it, it is way easier. Also military time is standard in law enforcement and it is standard here at the jail. Third, I have a bad habit of talking in the signals and codes since I am still learning them so if I talk about something you don't understand, just ask. Lastly, Im going to ommit alot of names and information so that everyone stays safe and happy.

So on a regular day, seeing as how Im on nights, I wake up at around 1500, get ready and get to the jail by 1730 for briefing. If I have to pick up my girlfriend I usually cant leave later than 1630. Well, this morning I guess I either set my alarm clock wrong, or I turned it off in my sleep. So I woke up at 1630 when my mom brought me the phone saying that my girlfriend was calling. So of course I talked to her for a minute, then panicked. I put on deoderant (Sitting here now, I think I should have used a wet cloth to try to clean up but I didn't) and shaved without shaving cream. So now my baby smooth face feels like I shaved with a cheese greater. I then got dressed as fast as I could and left the house without brushing my teeth and without my jacket. So now sitting her I feel dirty, my mouth taste awful, and I never got that wake up feeling from the shower.

So I never really posted about the inmates. Most of the time I try not to look up why they are here but mostly you can just tell. I try not to judge because they are here this is their punishment, but they all try to be so fucking sneaky. Its almost like I am watching a bunch of kindergartners. You can just tell when you walk past and they all stare at you that they are planning something stupid. For example my two inmate workers were just laying on the bench with their eyes closed so now they are sweeping and moping the upstairs visitation and contact rooms. Im not trying to be an asshole I just want to keep them out of trouble.

So I have figured out what the corrections assistant position is for. Its not to deal with inmate complaints, or to watch for fights, its not even to open doors. My job is to watch the officers and make sure they are safe. I know that probably sounds better than it is. But as long as the inmates dont fight, they dont ask stupid fucking questions, and they dont fuck with the officers then I am happy. It just pisses me off when they try to hde shit from me. Like inmate overstreet alway trys to talk to people he shouldn't, or he slips papers through the fire doors seperating the sections. It just makes me want to be an officer so I can pull him out of the sections and chew his ass out. Oh well Ill remember his name and one day Ill be an officer.

Charley-Delta Blues

So I worked in Charley Control today and at around 0930 we got the newspaper. Well in Charley-Delta, they house sex offender and Monday we got a new one, and unfortunatly today his picture was in the paper. The inmate then got a razor blade anotheer inmate had been hiding, went into the showeer, and cut his wrist. At the time I was sitting at the computer with my feet propped on the desk. And inmat in Charley-Delta was banging on the door yelling something. This may seem strange but the inmates are like highschool kids and they bang on the doors from time to time to bitch about various things ( Check my canteen, Do I have a visit, I locked myself out of my room) After the officers went in and called over the radio I noticed that the inmates cell was next to the shower and there was blood in his cell and all over the shower. Other than that all that happened today was when I was leaving through the employee entrance a lady tried to turn herself in to me because she had a warrant for a bad check. I told her how to get to intake and left. But it was funny because the lady kept trying to talk to me and I just kept walking.

I got a tb test on Wed and they will read it Fri but the bump is gone already. Next Wed I will be getting a flu shot so I should be set. Maybe Ill get a Hep B shot but I got one in the 5th grade so I think I still have a while before I need another one. I get paid Fri so it will feel nice to have extra money for a change.

Work is signal 20

So an inmate by the last name of Dean Killed himself at work the night before last. He was a signal 20 (crazy) but its still weird knowing someone hung themself a few hours before I got there. Ive only worked there 2 weeks and someone already died. I guess I lied about not talking about work so much. Its the only thing exciting happening right now, because Im too broke to hang out with any of my friends. All Im doing today is answering phones again so fuck my life.

Intake

I worked in intake today. Nothing exciting except at like 0600 two deputies brought in a female inmate who was absolutly crazy. I thought she would get tased because she would not comply and was screaming any time an officer touched her. They took her to the infirmary for suicide precaution. She was either crazy, or on some crazy ass drugs. Officer B gave me some of his old boots cause mine look like shit .

Blueberry poptart blues

Today was pretty straight forward. Theres was a signal 22 (Fight) in medical, officer involved, but they sprayed the guy and that was it. They shut the power down in building one at like 1300, but we ran off a generator so it was all good. I found out that I can check books out of training and get training hours so I might do that tomorrow. I just want to get like 200 hours in my first year and then Ill just have to wait for the time to get promoted. Plus I love reading so its all good. I called tech support to get my jail management working. I got signed off in master control and on the fire alarm system. Tomorrow im in intake. Officer B emailed me the 10 codes and signals so I have to print them out tomorrow.

Master Control

Worked my 2nd day of training in master control. Master control is a room along the green that unlocks all the doors in the building except, the pods where inmates are housed, booking, medical, and the kitchen I believe. Its all controlled by a computer screen which is a touch screen. When someone wants in a door they push a button on an intercom, this makes an icon appear which you click which activated the intercom, so you can hear the person then they cant hear you. This also switches a monitor to the closest camera to that door. There are certain rules though. Red suiters, red and whites, orange and whites, and blue and whites always have to be with an officer. Black and whites can go anywhere in the jail. Green and whites can go outside but they have to be escorted out of the jail and searched before coming back in. I also check out keys, anyone checking out a key has to sign the book and give their id. The Post Order says I cant give keys to an inmate and that made me laugh. I also sell tickets to staff dining and send runners. Runners are inmate workers who are under master contol. For example Bravo Pod will call up and say they need a red and white outfit 3x shit xl pants, so ill fill out the paperwork and send the runner. So today I was by myself for a few hours. Its was my second day of training, and technically theres supposed to be 2 people in master control, and technically I am supposed to be a third wheel. But, the lady in corridor went to the doctor so one person was sent there and I sent the other lady to lunch and then she kept going to break and to mail room etc. so I was alone. But master control is easy as fuck and I kept fucking with my runners. I would key on an intercom and send them somewhere before they finished what they were doing. The only thing to remember about master is inmates dont get in or out of kitchen without an officer no matter what color they are, and you cant have the front and back door of the kitchen open.

First day I went to briefing, it was a joke all they say is, " The other shift didnt have anything to pass on." Then they hand out shifts. I hate to say it but so far I love my job, its really awesome. If they would have asked me to stay I would have. Of course its probably only because its new and ill prob get tired of it, but I can definatly see myself in this for the long run. I ate staff dining again and it tore my stomach up. I had a cheeseburger and macaroni salad. The inmate worker recognised me from yesterday so I decided I better be nice to him so he doesnt fuck up my food. Fuck its 1050 and I have to wake up at 0400 so I better get to bed. I get signed off tomorrow so that should be exciting.

In the beginning

First day of work. All I did was watch videos, fill out paperwork, watch videos, go to lunch, watch videos and fill out paperwork. I got my new I.D., and my card key, the password for the gate and a gatekey so I think Im all set. I picked up my pants that I got himmed so I think I have my whole uniform. Im convinced the warehouse guy hates me or maybe hes just an asshole. Oh the head of training gave me an ink pen so it was a productive day. Im getting through everything really quick because Im doing orientation by myself, not in a group, so I think they are running out of stuff for me to do. But overall the highlight of my day was when I went in the comms center and I didnt have to empty my pockets to go through the metal detector. Employee benifits kick ass. Sorry for the type-os I am way tired.
