Baby Steps

So I am going to try to recall today in as much detail as I am accustomed to writing down but it was so full of nervouse excitement that some parts are already becoming hazy. I woke up around 10:30 with a million thoughts rolling through my head. What are they going to ask, how am I going to look? But my main though was I have to have black socks. So I tore my room, my dads room, and the laundry room apart, to realise that no one owns black socks in my family. So I took a special trip to walmart for 6$ black socks and while I was there I though man I should get a pen. I'll be all fancy with my black pen. So I forked out another 6$ for some fancy black pens. So I got home at 11:30 and put some chicken nuggets in the oven and proceeded to give myself the closest shave I have ever given myself. Then I watched some show about urban legends and ate my delicous chicken nuggets. After all this it was 1:00pm so I hopped in the shower and scrubbed myself with soap and a washcloth till my skin was bright red and got dressed.

I left my house at 1:45 and got a call from Officer B to figure out where I was going for the 3rd time and to get a mini pep talk I suppose.I got to the Sheriffs Office at 2:30 and went inside the visitations building. The room I entered was filled with rows of t.v. screens and a front desk. I went to the desk and I guess from the fact that I wasnt wearing a T-shirt and cut off jeans they knew I was there for an interview and they sent me through a side door. There a nice lady said," Oh your here early, you can have a seat and they will be right with you." So I sat and waited half an hour and I stared at all the people there for visitations because some barely had clothes on and it was almost like seeing a carnival. But at around 3:00pm a Chief (Chief B) showed up and made the office all nervouse so I had to sit for a few minutes before the Chief walked out the door and said, "So your looking for a job?" And he was smiling so I smiled and said yes and sir several times while I shook his hand and then I met Captain B and Major L. The spelling is probably off but you get the idea. Then they went out and discussed the new building and after about 10 mins they came back and I followed the major and the captain back to a room and sat down around a large table.

Major L did most of the talking and he first asked why I wanted a job in corrections. I fluffed it up as much as possible, " Well sir ever sense I was young I wanted to have a job in law enforcement so just after high school I put in an application but by the time they called me for an interview I was starting the police academy so I had to decline the interview and then I passed everything but the driving in the academy and then I put in another application here and then here I am. What part of driving didnt you pass? Oh it was the very first part where you do the figure 8, I would have to exit so I would go wide on the back of the last turn and clip the cone on the outside edge." Major Laxton lauhed, " So you can't drive. No sir I guess not. Do you currently have a job? Yes I detail at Ford of Ocala. Oh I know someone there named T. Oh Yeah I know T. Winters. Yeah he's a good friend of mine ( Side not T. Winters is a douche bag with a cocky ass sense of humor and every time he talks to me I want to punch him.) By the time Captain B decided to chime in but up to this point I dont think he was listening. " We had someone else come over from Ford. Yes sir they have been laying people off left and right. Yeah the economy is bad. Since Ive worked there they have layed off over half the people, even T. lost a few detailers." Major L laughed again, " Now T. has to work." By this time I felt confident and knew I pretty much had the job. "So what made you the most interested in this job. Well I love how its a great career and you always have opportunities to do different things, you can become certified, you can go on the road, you can do C.E.R.T. What do you know about C.E.R.T? Well I know I'm not in good enough shape. No I mean who told you about it. My friend Officer B, hes worked here a year or two. Oh so Officer Bs has told you alot about the job. Yes sir but I first heard about it in highschool from a recruiter. Do you remember the recruiters name? No sir this was about two or three years ago. Yeah we havent done any recruiting since then. Have you lived in Ocala your whole life? Yes sir. Ever been arrested? No sir never even been pulled over. You havent been pulled over but you couldnt pass driving in the police academy? Well I guess I am good at driving slow." Everyone laughed. " So where all have you worked besides Ford? Well my first job was Winn Dixie when I was 15 and I worked there three years. Then I worked Lowes overnight stock, and then winn dixie again part time when I was in school and now I work at Ford. Ever have any discipline taken against you at work. No sir. Ever late. No I like to be early. Do you have reliable transportation? Yes sir." Then Captain B started up again out of his day dream. " Do you have any questions about being a CA? No sir. Well you could be out in a tower or in booking or even with a work crew but you will never be close to an inmate alone. Do you want to take a tour. Yes I havent seen the jail since around elementary school. Like a field trip? Yes sir." So he got on his phone and Major L said, " Well were going to recommend you continue the process and you just have to take your tour then take this paper to human resources and your all set." So I thanked them both and shook their hand and tooks the paper work and waited on a CA to come pick me up.

He showed me around the visitation area, then took me over to booking. Booking is awesome and I would love to work there. Thats where they bring in all the fresh inmates and they are all scared and timid. Then we walked down the hall and he showed me master control which basically controls all the doors in the hallways. Then we went past all the pods and ended up in Alpha where I saw all the murderers and crazy people. Then we went back and saw staff dining and the walked past the kitchens which smell like ass. Then I was off to human resources but I thought Id mention that if I went back to the Jail right this second I would get lost. So I went to human resources and gave them the paper and set up to do my physical thursday at 2:00pm and then I have an interview with the chief and Sheriff hopefully sometime next week. I have to read a book on core values by then but its only one hundred pages. So I got a conditional offer of employment which means if my interviews go good and my physical checks out I'm in like sin.
